I just bought my first boat and am ecstatic! Problem is that it is my first boat and I?m not sure what I need to do before taking it out on the water for trial runs. It is a 14? Lone Star Semi-V aluminum boat with a 1966 Evinrude Sportwin 9.5 hp engine. I mixed up the gas and oil, put it in the tank, and it fired on the first pull! It seemes to idle fine at high and low throttle. The only wierd thing I noticed was that after running for a very short time, less than a minute, the cooling water coming out of the engine was HOT. Should it be hot that fast? I really want to take it out to our lake and see how well it runs through the water, but I?m not sure if I should do anything to the engine first. I?ve been told to possibly change out the gear grease, but I am unsure how to do this or even where to even start with that. I know I need to buy a repair manual, and can on this site, but I'm itching to get it out before I would have time to get one. Its getting cold here already, and I know my days are numbered. Any help and or advice anyone can give me would be greately apprectiated!
