I have a 110hp outboard merc motor on my boat, i recentely got the carbs rebuilt and i bought a new wiring harness to replace the old i also changed the spark plugs. The boat started and i started to step on the gas more and more and only went up max to 10-15mph maybe not even, it turned off on me a few times. Might someone know why the motor would do that? I thought the carbs or the timing needed to be done but that checked out, i was told it could be the ignition switchbox. I did run before i took it to get the carbs rebuilt.

Did you ever get your problem resolved? Mine is doing the same thing.

Re: 1966 Merc 1100ss Help

On the wiring diagram: http://www.maxrules.com/oldmercs/Wiring/1966ona/34.jpg It shows a shorting clipper from alternator stator and i didn't see that on my wiring. Is the shorting clipper important?

Methinks the 1966 had a point fired ignition, (the 1967 950 and 1100 had a trigger fired ignition).

If so: this is the wrong schematic.

You may also find that setting the points will cure yer problem as they needed setting every 100 hours or so, (one of the reason I have a 1967 950). JR
