I just purchesed this boat and motor. How do you know if the waterpump impeller is pumping water? Also where is the water pump impeller located? Looks to have 2 exhaust ports. One right at the water intake and one up high near the power head.
Here are the specs
Model # VWB19090A
Serial # 66X10418

Thanks in Advance.

Is water supposed to come out of the upper exhaust port? Is there a Thermosthat on this engine? If so where is it located and how will I know if it is working

Coulda swore I posted on this earlier??

Pics of the lower?
Better pics of the motor?? Sideways is too hard to see.
Picking up and turning the monitor is a bugger!! :)

Looks like it's missing?
On the back of the motor, the pipe sticking out is for water, out.

On the bottom of the lower unit,a snout is for exhaust/water out.
The pickup for water is the slits on the side of the lower unit(if they are there?)
Or possible in front of the snout? Pics?

Thermo.Top of the head.Rubber hose on the head? Under that is the thermo.
3-4 screws

Re: 1966 Sea King 50

I am new to all this Outboard Engines.I am a service tech at Lexus. I can make any car run right, But boats are all new to me. I have Searched the site, But have come up short on the water issue. If I put the muff on it. And pull the hose and wait at the cylinder head. She will eventially pump water. But if I put here in a tank she wont pump any. Just will eventually blow steam at that hose and the block connection. The lower end has already been apart. Impeller is new. I had it running today with the muff on it and she pumped water. As soon as I put her in the tank. No water flow to the head. Do these engines need to be in a lake running to prime and pump water?
There are no restrictiions in the water system. I have blown compressed air through both sides of the system. I am leaning to the issue if this motor has a thermosthat causing this problem. Can any one help me with an Exploded Veiw of the water system or the Thermosthat locattion.

For some reason I cannot copy a vid of the motor running and pumping water to this site So I am linking one from my Face Book page.

Show the pics of the lower.
Your FB thingy didn't work.
If you use the wrong muffs it can overheat.
Some outboards need this kind of muff???

The thermo,if you can get it out????
Can be tricky.
You heat some water, boiling. Then drop thermo in it.
It should open. Then drop it in cold water it should close??

Impeller is located on top of the lower unit.
You need to drop the gear case and it will be on the drive shaft.
Try Franz marine. For parts.
Valley Sales in Prudenville,Mi. too.

Please read our rules, mastr.

11. Please do not post multiple threads in multiple forums about a single problem. This is confusing to those trying to help you. Multiple threads in the same forum about the same issue are also confusing. If you want help fast, one thread in the most closely related forum is the best way to get it.

I have merged your two threads.
