i had a bit o brain fade there. don't know why i thought you were working with a Starchief. yeah, a bimini is super easy to install....just be sure to use backing plates under the aluminum with machine screws and nuts when you install the pivots and tension strap brackets.

Welcome to the Starmada, Eric. One vet to another, thank you for your service. I was a one termer in the USAF. I was a nuclear missile mechanic in Wyoming. I fought the cold war, never killed any Russians per se, but I think Ronald Reagan and myself scared a few of them to death.

This is a great place to get information on Starcraft aluminum boats, no, the best place! The Holiday model (I"m guessing thats what you have) is a fine looking boat that should do you proud. There are a few out standing holiday restos to inspire you too. The closed bow has some advantages.

Bwana, thank you as well for your service. I think, I so does my father-in-law that the boat is actually a Jupiter. From the limited info I have so far, and it seems like all I do now is research this boat, the Jupiter is the most logical. The Holiday was an 18ft boat with a 110-120HP motor. This boat is 16ft with an 85HP Johnson O/B on it. My wife has ridden in the boat several times and when looking at the pics of the Jupiter she says that is the one most resembling dads.

This will be my FIRST boat so I have tons to learn and already am using advice from here to research and start asking dad a few questions. Looks like we are going to get the engine professionally tuned up there prior to bringing her home.

probably a good idea....the amount of time between when it shows up and your kids are clamoring to go out will likely be measured in seconds

twofootitis is more commonly the disease that occurs when you say something you shouldn't. Also known as footinmouth disease. I have had several cases of it, most commonly in conversations with my wife. The disease itself is not deadly, the reaction of the person you are speaking to however might be.

Was wondering about the gas tank. What capacity would that be and what is the fuel economy of the 85HP Johnson? Anyone? Also, what would be the top speed, roughly?

Top speed will be roughly 35-40MPH. Fuel consumption will be roughly 8.5 gallons per hour at WOT. Considerably less at slower speeds. I never found my 85 or my current 90 to be real fuel hogs.

No hurt meant!! :redface: I was simply stating that I think you need to have a restore thread going before you are part of the starcraft family (The zoo, starmada, Tin Troop, "miss any?") enough to welcome new members....

I have been trying to find the groups by-laws but someone (Huron, Bwanna, Jasoutside, yourself, paparoof, barato, ez...or someone along those lines) told me they are included with every Starcraft made, under the floor, stamped into the hull. You can feel the words are there but you cant read them until you have applied Gluvit! I have not gotten that far yet...

Nope. Mine did not have a tank in it when I bought it. There had apparently been a tank mounted up in he bow because there was a fill cap up on the bow and a nice copper fuel line running from front to back. I used the fuel line to plumb a 12 gallon "portable" tank mounted under the bow with cooler brackets

wow, I would actually think that 8.5 gallons per hour would be bad. If it reached a top speed of 40mph that is 3 miles for every gallon of gas. Hmmmm.....well, better get a nice size tank then. Wonder if I can piggy two 12 gallon tanks in the bow? I don't think I would be WOT all the time, but I would hate to only get 2-3 hours on the lake with a 12 gallon tank. Guess I'll get used to how boats operate soon enough.

Any thoughts on those stabilizers that go on your motor to help keep the straight?

Boats get terrible gas mileage, especially if you look at it in miles per gallon. I found I can do a good amount of cruising/playing with a 12 gallon main and a 6 gallon reserve. You aren't going to be running around WOT all the time. The general consensus around here is that those fin things suck. Smart tabs are much preferred. However, I highly doubt your aluminum Starcraft will need either.
