I will be receiving a 1966 Starcraft Holiday 18.5 ft in a few weeks. A coworkers father unfortunately passed on and he is happy to see the boat go to a good home that will take care of it and use it. He has 2 motors, One is rebuilt and are sitting waiting to installed. The other can be used for parts as needed.

I have been reading through the other members posts and searching on the net but cannot find any info on a 1966 Holiday. The title states that it's a 1966 18.5 Holiday but the closest I can find is a 1968. I will post pic's once she is home.

Thanks,
Kassun

Welcome to iboats Kassun:)

You've found the best source of info on these old boats on the net. We love starcraft aluminum hulls here very much.

This is a link to some brochures that folks have been nice enough to provide. You will see the '66 and '68 in there, some sweet old boats:D

I have a 70's Johnson 25hp that I run on my 15.5 crestliner. Would it be to much weight for a kicker motor?

Thats a heck of a kicker....You'd have to get a mount rated for that..But I would think it be a bit heavy...

I dont know how much MORE than a 9.9 or 15 tho...and as I ramble these thoughts onto the screen..It would weigh a lot less than a body sitting in that corner of the stern....

I'll have to start looking around for something smaller. I have a 9.9 Johnson but it's a short shaft and don't think that would work because of the short shaft.

I am about a week out now and all I can do is read through others restorations and obsess. I am driving my wife nuts, but it's not the first or last time I have done this. :) I still have to figure out where exactly I am going to store it. I have a small single garage that my 15.5 crest liner barely fits in. I have been looking at car ports and then just use some ply to enclose and Tyvek it.

Thanks

I can't wait to see her in person. Hopefully in a few weeks. Then it'll be time to start the restoration. I will have to try and find a manual on the motors. Since I have never dealt with an inboard I might have a local shop install the engine for me. That way I know it's done right and I didn't forget anything that would damage the engine. I hope to have so shots of the boat in a few days.

Re: 1966 Starcraft 18.5 Holiday - start

It's been a while since my 1st post. I will be making my final payment this weekend and will have her home finally. Though most of the summer up here is over.
I found out that the one rebuilt motor is still wrapped in plastic wrap on a pallet outside and the other can be used for parts as needed. I have a basic mechanical knowledge. I hope to be able to install the engine myself with some help from books and manuals. Other wise I'll have to contract out for help.

Hope to have some pictures up this weekend.

Sounds good, man I bet you are really anxious to get the rig...it's been a while.

Good luck and head over to the motor forums if you have questions. Are you dropping in a new I/O or outboard?

Re: 1966 Starcraft 18.5 Holiday - start

Very Excited :D

A new i/o.

I had the motor make and model written down but can't find the paperwork. So I'll wait till this weekend. Since I have moderate mechanical skills I looked at possibly converting it over to a outboard with the purchase of a bracket. But I figure since the motor is rebuilt and has 0 hrs on it I might as well stay with the i/o setup. I also didn't want to mess around with the center of gravity, especially when I will be going out on Lake Superior frequently.

I have looked at converting it into an open bow, but I am not sure on that decision yet. I want to use the boat primarily for fishing, but want the option to camp out on it if I want in a safe harbor over night. I know it's not a cuddy but I figure with an open floor plan and a nice Bimi top with the option to enclose it if I want should be sufficient. I've decided that carpet is not the way to go and will be using the new vinyl material.

I have had a lot of time to drool over the ideas,
