Well I went and looked at the trailer... It was not as nice as the pictures show... He painted the tires (which were missing chunks of tread). So, the hunt continues. I might have to buy a fixer upper and restore it the way I want it.

 some people and their "restorations" are nothing more than smearing lipstick on pig lips.

He absolutely did! The tires were bald, dry rotted, with chunks of tread missing. He painted them... He painted the rollers. He painted the diamond back decking on the step-ups. He painted everything, except the bottom side of the trailer of course, not a drop of paint under there.

Well, that's it. My boat is in Eldorado, Wisconsin to have the drive system installed. They're going to keep it for the winter and I'll pick it up in the spring. Hopefully when I get it back it'll be 100% functional. They're going to tailor the transom, install the gimbal assembly, install the engine, install the drive, hook up my steering and throttle, and complete some of the wiring. When I get it back in the spring I'll have to reassemble it the interior, install my transducers, and install the blower and bilge pump. I was pretty happy when they informed me that it will be stored inside.

How does this look for $150? I see the bones of exactly what I want. As long as it's solid, I'm thinking for that price I can throw a few hundred at it and have exactly what I want.

its been painted , as long as you know what you are looking at, , looks like a non galvanized trailer.... if it was galvanized and painted , i would feel slightly better but only you and him know what it looks like up close

I think my boat will fit pretty good on it. The way it's currently set-up (it can be adjusted), he says it's about 17' from the bow support to the end of the bunks. Those center bunks are 10'.

I think I'm good, and if I have any problems with bunk heights I can make use of something like these:

Take a screwdriver with you when you go to look and poke anything that looks odd to check for bad rust damage . I used to take a magnet with me when looking at used cars and would stick it to the body and move it along the contours and if it came unstuck I knew it had bondo on it. Magnets had a plastic coating so not to scratch the paint . Don't know it that would work on the trailer but just sayin.
At 150 you could replace spindles hubs and bearings as well as buy new bunk mounts and still have a really good deal.

Well, what would you think about NE Ohio if I told you that I went and looked at another trailer with spray painted tires???? Yes he did... :disturbed:… This time I chose to ignore it though, must be common in these parts. It was solid. I was impressed. It was a little banged up, dented fenders and the steps are a little jarred but other wise the frame is solid, no bends, no twists, no signs of rust, nothing. It is a perfect skeleton of the trailer I want for my boat. I can see the end result of this in my head and it's going to be glorious. And... I ended up getting it for $125

:whoo:

I'll start by buying a couple fenders off of ********, add about a foot to the tongue, have some welding done, install new lights & wiring, add some paint, new bunks with red carpet, red Starcraft details, diamond deck plating for my steps, chrome/alloy rims and we'll be looking good.

The step and fenders will give 7' of something to stand on while getting stuff in and out of the boat. That's going to be nice and this trailer will have my boat sitting about 5 inches closer to the ground, making it that much easier to launch.

Off to a good start, the ******** fenders seem like they'll be a perfect replacement (going by their measurements) and they have a steel backing on them, so I won't have to build those and they shouldn't be rotting anytime soon.:thumb:

Hot dang there boss , that was a killer deal you made. Don't know where you will want to store it at but you could lengthen the tongue by getting a folding tongue setup so that you may be able to store it in a garage with no problems.

That's what I was thinking too. It's probably the easiest and cheapest way to do it. I'm having a hard time finding where I can buy a small section of trailer tongue though. I'll probably just go for some plain steel tubing. I see where I could get a piece of structural steel tubing for about $30. I should probably hold off on the extension until I can see the boat on it. I'm getting that it will sit about 24" off of my truck cap. Seems a little close. I'm not sure my cap can even open with it that close.

I'm trying to identify the make of the trailer. I see a lot of late 80's VIP boats on the exact same trailer. In fact it's about the only trailer you see them on. Does anybody know if VIP made their own trailers?

So does that mean no title or paperwork came with the trailer?
