Pic 1is the float level,should be flat.
The drop,should be almost touching the center post.
Needle and seat.One should have rubber in it somewhere???
Either the tip of the needle or an o-ring in the seat.
The float needs to be adjusted while the carb is upside down.

This one's for the 85 and up but covers the carb settings.They are all basically the same.
The smoke is from running in the barrel,not getting it hot enough,
not running it long enough to burn off the excess built up oil.
When you remove the carb,check the reeds behind it?
