Picture 010.jpgPicture 009.jpg
Pic 1is the float level, should be flat.
The drop, should be almost touching the center post.
Needle and seat. One should have rubber in it somewhere???
Either the tip of the needle or an o-ring in the seat.
The float needs to be adjusted while the carb is upside down.
You have a manual: http://rapidshare.com/files/453372553/Force_Outboards_1984-99.pdf

This one's for the 85 and up but covers the carb settings. They are all basically the same.

The smoke is from running in the barrel, not getting it hot enough,
not running it long enough to burn off the excess built up oil.
When you remove the carb, check the reeds behind it?
Good luck,J

It's fixed!!!! Kinda...... I put a new needle and seat, there was no needle to begin with. I set the float to parallel and when the carb is inverted I can blow NO air into the carb! But, I test ran it. Not near as much smoke and it runs cleaner. I just am working on setting the idle cause I couldn't get the rpm low enough to put the boat in gear. Aaaand I also realized I have to completely reseal the lower unit (sad face). When will the B.o.a.t. Acronym of bring on another thousand end????

What do you mean??When does it end??? In NEVER ends.
The settings on the carb, top front screw.
1 turn from lightly seated for inital setting.
Then motor warm, running, turn screw in till it just starts coughing, stalling and then out 1/2 turn.
Then turn the idle down.

I know it never ends. I have the idle set wrong because I had the idle set to where it would idle good with wayyyy too much fuel in the carb. Thanks for y'all's help. I'll post more vids this weekend of more progress

Okay, After replacing needle and seat, adjusting the float, setting the idle, performing a link a sync, i finally got the motor running/idling okay enough to work to my liking. One more problem, motor wont go in gear, while running. it used to but now it does not. i think the rpm may be too high to clunk in, the gearing still works because i killed the motor, put it in gear and turned the prop and the powerhead still turns.

this video shows it running at mid-range but thats just it to show that its not extremely rich anymore

It's good to see you are making progress.

What is making the motor idle high? Have you run out of adjustment on the idle stop screw?
