In question is a 1967 Johnson 3hp fold-a-way. Can the powerhead from a non-folding motor of the same year be used on the folding version?

There is only one part number for both powerheads.. Part # 381821 with the only difference being the adaptor plate ... part# 382072 (or) # 382071.

I ask this because I am about to buy a used non-folding motor with the intention of using the powerhead on a folding motor of the same year.

Anyone been down this road before ???

Never been down that road, but, I believe the powerhead is the same on both motors. Can't see why there would be any difference.

I have the folding and I think it would work. According to this guys website there are 5 screws to remove the powerhead from the shaft and I assume he is working on a non folding. http://outboard-boat-motor-repair.com/Evinrude 3 HP Lightwin Outboard Boat Motor/default.htm

On my folding I have those same 5 screws but another plate mounts with those 5 screws and then 4 bolts hold it to the shaft. So I think the powerhead is the same as the previous poster said.

Powerheads vary by year, but the same year should be ok.
