Arghhhh!

This motor may be the death of me. It all ran fine yesterday. I went to go put it on the lake today and no go. I took it apart and . . .

The flywheel is cracked (split, really) along the keyway. Never seen that before. Anyway, where would I get a flywheel for one of these things?

get the number off it, tcoutboards.com ebay there may be other model that will fit also. have to investigate. did you torque the flywheel when you put it back on? should have been 480-540 inch pounds

Yeah, i toqued it all down properly. It's the weirdest thing. I would have expected the key stock to fail long before the flywheel. I did have it off and on about 900 times in the last few days though, so maybe I skipped something that last time.

I made a call out to a friend of mine that may have one, so here's hoping.

Thank goodness for friends in the biz. I knew Ian was in the industry, but didn't exactly know in what capacity. So, I called and asked, "Where in Seattle can I get parts for an old Evinrude?" "Theoretically me." was his answer.

Turns out he works at sea-way marine (www.sea-way.com) and they have built a small specialty on the side out of providing parts for older motors. Who knew? Anyway, I got a good deal on the part - $50 for a NOS flywheel, key, washer and nut. He's got a few shift-link seals in stock too for all you who are looking to replace yours.

Give a call, ask for Ian, you can mention "Bob C. sent you" if you want.

Anyway, I'm back in business, and checked the torque setting on the flywheel nut about a brazillion times.
