He all.
I’m back with more questions on my 67 Evinrude. 80 hp lower unit. I have completely rebuilt it with all new seals because of water/oil contamination. After assembly and fresh oil, I lowered the engine, left it over night and the gear case oil is slowly dripping out. The prop shaft has wear marks on it where the seal sits. Is this normal? Could this be the issue? Pics attached. Thanks again for all the previous help. 9899FDE6-8D4E-4A0D-9A42-4DE5FA0B8166.jpeg

Normally you do a pressure test after a reseal.-----And that new seal in the bearing carrier has the wee spring facing the oil ??-----You might be able to polish the shaft.-----You might be able to locate the seal in a different spot.----You might be able to find a used propshaft.---You had new seals on the 4 screws ?------And are you 100% sure it was gear oil that leaked out ??

Did not do pressure test.
Spring is in the correct position.
New o rings on the 4 screws.
100% it was new gear oil.
Was thinking of polishing the shaft. What about the large o ring on the assembly/housing? I’m assuming it is a back up in addition to the shaft seal? The shaft is still available NOS reasonable priced. Pressure test procedure?
Thank you for your help. 👍

I bought the complete seal, housing, bearing assembly last fall because it was cheaper than just buying the seal and bearing separately. Rebuilt everything and filled it. Was planning a last boat ride in the fall. I came out the next day and there was a gear oil puddle on the floor. I walked away from it for the winter. Now I’m back into it again. Uggh
Thanks again.

Any indication where the Oil is getting out? Did you replace the Gasket/Washers under the Drain and Vent Screws?

The big o-ring is a main seal.----It is NOT a back up for anything !-----There are many leak points on one of those lower units.----Pressure testing is easy.
