Hi there, I have a 67 Sportfour 60hp on an old 15' Starcraft runabout. I've been getting bugs worked out this summer, but I still have a problem with sluggish acceleration. I've tried a number of things, but tonight I noticed that when checking the synch. between the towershaft and distributer, that it was going to full advanced timing much sooner than it should. The triangle in the casting was not lining up with the linkage as per the manual. It was going way past the casting mark instead of lining up evenly. My question is, could the timing advance not being correct cause the sluggish accel? I set it according to the book, but haven't had the boat out yet. I'm just hoping I might have found something. Thanks Zeph

If the distributor wasn't going to full advance it would affect the power.

Mine was the other way around. The throttle was wide open, the tower linkage was at the stop but the distributor wasn't at the full advance stop. I pushed the throttle wide open and loosened the screws in the distributor advance linkage and pushed the distributor to the stop and tightened the screws so everything was at its mark. You need four hands and a leg but I got it done and it accelerates much better. You can see in the photo how far off the distributor was. I think it's probably the play in the linkage that results in this since I did the link & sync with the distributor held in place with a bungie cord. I was so impressed with the way it ran, in fact, that I posted a Youtube video of the holeshot. Search speedifour and you'll find it. Keep in mind it's a 75hp motor on a 16 foot fiberglass boat
