1967 evinrude, trouble running

Hi this what i believe to ba a 1967 6hp evinrude. 670zd c52z1320. Did not run well after years of storage.( imagine that.) Have installed two new coils and points/condensers/plugs. Clean gas and inspected carburator or contamination. Found it very clean, spotless actually.<br />Problem is that when running it seems to have a miss, problem gets worse if I lower rpm. When in gear and acccelerate it also seems to miss. I am going to soak the carb anyways but anyone have anyother suggestions? How many ohms should the spark plug wires have? or change them anyways?

I'd give the carb soak a chance and see how that does. Blow out all the passages with compressed air, too. It may look good on the surface, but those tiny passages can clog easily...

Run it in the dark and see if there's any stray arcing along the wires. I believe the model is 6702D(rather than 670zd). Plugs should be J6C gapped at .030.

Yes BoatBouy thats probably right on those numbers ty. another question though , when setting the point gap the fly wheel has two markings. Set points A here and another set points B here. There isn't a position marked on the motor for reference. I set them with these marks lined up forward (towards carb) Seemed to be the position that allowed these point to open. Can anyone confirm that for me? Thanks

I belive those marks you're describing are for checking the timing with a timing light. They're used in reference to two vertical lines about 1/4" apart marked on the armature plate. The armature plate is the round flange the coils are bolted to. The timing light will make theflywheel marks appear between those two lines when timing is set precisely correct.<br /><br />If you set your points to open .020" maximum, you'll have it close enough. The highest point on the cam is aligned with the flywheel key, so to set the points at thier maximum opening just line the flywheel key up with the rubbing block on each point.

thanks Paul, i did do that so I'll still soak the carb on Monday. I'll have to read up on the timing though maybe way out?.

while stripping carb for soaking i was removing the low speed mixture shaft. I found the Packing or gromet badley deteriated, May I replace this with an O-ring or sould I order the actual part?
