Re: 1967 Johnson 3hp JHF-22 with Zero Hours
If you havent tried it yet,go with the 24-1 oil ratio.i MAY be wrong ,BUT,I did alot of the smaller outboards in a shop.I once had a old 3hp.tried everything to get it to run, then I remembered about the oil dif.i was shocked that once I changed to the gas with more oil,it ran. Now,was it a coincedience?I thought that PERHAPS the hi oil content helped somehow with sealing rings ,thus less comp .loss.ANYWAY,try it.it did work for me.That said,I also ran my own 60ish 3 hp johnson with a pint and a half to 6 gallons, just for insurance, never had an issue, that was with the newer TCW oil from the 80's to mid 90's.Let us know if it helps.By the way,I love to hear about those old finds. In Freeport Long Island,GROVERS,a big marine dealer had same eng as you have,it was in the front window ,on display ,if I remember ,it was in a wooden shipping crate ,designed to take the folding gearcase.Good Luck.
