Hey alcan

I think you have two problems. Number one is charchin coils touching the magnetos. This causes probably no other problems than the heat. The other problem must be a fuel delivery problem. When the engine dies, try to spray WD 40 into the carbureator, and see if it fires. If it does, it is a fuel problem, otherwise it must be ignition.

I have an OMC troubleshooting manual for all of the battery powered CDI systems, 15 pages with wiring diagrams, I can mail a copy to Schematic and he can put it in his files and post it. Scanner not working, so it might take 2 weeks.

Hey Clanton. You were right my motor is a 1968 TRL-10R. Ser# J2978216.The oem manual I am using is for 1969 55hp evinrude triumph. Same motor. Sorry Guys, I'm an analog man in a digital world. Today I tested the charging system acording to the book.Rectifier good, stator ok also. My meter read .8 and .9 between the the yellow leads, the book calls for .75 ohms + - .2. Checked all venting, clear. So I fired it up. As usual it lit right off, sat there an idled for an hour and a half, did'nt miss a beat. Cover on,cover off.Nothing is rubbing under the fly wheel. The fly temp was just warm, same as rest of motor. I could touch it w/bare hands any where, normal. I also checked voltage at the batt. it was 12.45 volts. Clanton that imformation would be great. Thank you. My test tank is good for motors up to 25 to 35 hp. I use a home made (portable) tank and ear muffs for any thing larger. As I don't have any test wheels,I must trailer to boat ramp for high speed testing.I realized this system dosen't use condensers.I'll WOT test and see if I can reproduce symtoms on the trailer. Thanks again. Happy new year.

After more than 6 1/2 years I'm sure he either managed to find and fix the problem or he loosened the motor up and let it fall off into the drink :D
