1967 Johnson 60HP 2 Stroke Petrol Types

Guys, I am base in Melbourne Australia, and just wondering what type of fuel would be best suited for my Johnson 60HP. We have three types we can choose from here. To date I have been using the 2nd Option, 95 RON. Would using the 98 RON cause any issues or give me better performance?

1/ Unleaded 91RON
2/ Premimum Unleaded 95RON
3/ Optimax Premium Unleased 98RON

Being as I live in USA, and don't know about RON, can I assume they equal our Unleaded, Mid-grade, and Premium? Your motor is reletively low-comression and will be perfectly happy with the lowest grade. Higher octanes will give absolutely no advantage. Any fuel that is suitable for today's "family" cars will be fine.

How much does gas cost there? That motor will eat you up if you feed it the expensive stuff.

91RON is roughly equivalent to 87(R+M/2) in the US. It is adequate for your motor. Using a higher octane than is needed, in an outboard, gains nothing.

I have OMC outboards ranging from a pair of 1958 Evinrudes to a 1972 Johnson and I run 87 octane, unleaded "regular" in all of them. As others have said, there is no advantage to running higher octane fuels in your motor. This is also true of other internal combustion engines that are designed for lower octane fuels. Running a more expensive fuel is just that - merely more expensive.

Then without doubt stick with the 91 RON. Your motor will run fine with it.

Yes I see it coming as well. Hopefully not too soon !!!!
It seems to go up when a worker from a refinery calls in sick for a day !!!!

I get contracted in to work in refineries, so I know all about the wasted money there that I cannot even begin to explain

If you fine tune your setup you may be able to get the most for your money.
Be sure your prop is right and the motor runs within its proper rpm range.
Check the verticle height.Raise it until just before ventilation becomes a problem.You could gain a couple of mph. Your gallons per hour remain constant your mpg can be improved by running as efficiently as possible.
Rule if thumb is WOT (wide open throttle) GPH = 10% of hp. Thus your 60 will use about 6 GPH @ wot.
