don't have much on condenser testing -- some instructions for use of a merc-o-tronic tester, but that's it. For the standard coils used in OMCs for years, should be continuity between green and black leads, and about .9ohm resistance. For secondary windings, there should be something like 7.70 thousand ohms resistance between the black lead and the plug wire spike. Which is to say, you should see resistance on both primary and secondary sides of a standard coil. (That would be in checking new coils, according to the instructions I have.) Ain't much, but hope it helps. Other listers may have better info for you -- and what I gave you might be irrelevant for the phelon coils anyway. Again, check the AOMCI public posting site if you don't get enough info here -- and try a google search to see what hits you get.

Leave the laminates on the armature plate. To replace the coil on that style, remove the coil itself from the laminates, then slide the new one in place. New Phelon coils are available... Phelon # - (PH 905) - O.E.M. # 398-173... Sierra/NAPA # 18-5178. Should run you between $35 and $45 depending on where you look...

I am new to the forum and hope that I can get a follow-up answer to this post. Currently working on a 1973 7.5 HP, S/N 3733058. In this thread post #4, oldman570 said to watch the flywheel marks when checking ohms on the points. Where are the marks I & II supposed to be when the points open and close and is there a mark that they are supposed to align with?
