I just bought this 1967 Starcraft Jupiter Project for $800.00. It is fairly origional with exception of the 1975 Evenrude motor. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the 75 HP Evenrude Stinger II motor will be healthy after not runing for 14 years. I will keep you posted. I need to figure out how to send pictures.
Thanks for sharing helpful tips.

Read this thread on awakening a sleeping outboard. Welcome to the forum, a little place we call the Starmada, the Brotherhood of the Tin, the Federation of Starcraft Restorers.....

Photobucket is the easiest way to post pictures.

Lets see some pics! Create an account on photobucket.com and link to them from there. That's the easiest way.

Re: 1967 Starcraft Jupiter

if there were ever an engine that was likely to actually run after sitting dormant for many years, it's an old 2-stroke. for whatever reason, (oil on cyl walls till moment of shutdown?), they seem to seize up less than old 4 strokes. it's not uncommon to see motors from 50s and 60s with decent compression if they don't have too many hours on em.

you should still expect some minor bugs, and that engine won't run right and make full compression til it's run through a few heat cycles. probably due to pistons rings sticking in grooves, but it seems to be really common that dormant engines will make crappy compression figures until you've warmed em up and cooled em down 3-4 times....i've seen a 30+ psi improvement in cylinder pressures in some cases.

and welcome to the insanity

or was that sanity in a world of excess and conspicuous consumption?

Re: 1967 Starcraft Jupiter

Thanks Barato,
I appreciate your advice and words of encouragement.
I am optomistic and hopeful to learn that the Evenrude 75 HP Stinger can be healthy once again without spending big money. Although it has been sitting outdoors for several years there are no visible signs of corrosion on it's external parts. Additionally there are no nicks, scrapes or signs of wear on the lower unit or propeller. This motor apears to have never been exposed to salt water or corrosive eliments. I will oil it up good, make sure it is cooling and cautiously take it through several heat cycles as you reccomend. I will also chage the water pump impeller before going to the lake.
Thanks Again,
David
