Ok, I was posting in the add pics thread. It's time to start a resto thread. Still working on my polebarn/workshop so these are early as I have to finish that before winter. Here's the way I brought her home minus 2 large bags of leaves so far and all the large trash that was dumped in it. It had been stored under a tree for 3 years. The boat towed heavy so I assume the flotation foam is saturated. No matter, I have been learning lots from all of you already and am anxious to tackle this project. I have the colors picked out. an eggshell white for the outer hull and a creamy yellow for the upper decks and the inside bow.

Mod EDIT: See my edit of that part topic, John

The rest is in remarkably good condition.

Oh, in case anyone was wondering, the existing paint job was brushed on. Seems to have protected the rubber anyway. Ha, they painted over everything, rubber and all. I cleaned some of it off with a pen knife and it flakes right off.

Your pics are kinda small, but she looks like she is all there and ready for some love! getting the old thick paint off will be the biggest job so you are lucky the PO didn't do a good prep and it comes right off. Lots of great advice and information on this forum that will get you through almost anything that will come your way.
Good luck and enjoy.

Yep, it's an 18' holiday. Can't wait to get started, but have to finish my workshop and carport first. I'll look into the youtube suggestion, Thanks

Minor Milestone. It's under cover. Now it's at least in line on the project list. Carpenter has been out injured. he hurt his shoulder a some years ago and isn't able to finish the ceiling in the carport. That'll make this a little more challenging to keep heat in, but I'll do what I can. Some good news I guess. The boat was sitting a little nose down and we've had lots of rain. Once I got it in place and nose up, water drained for at least 30 minutes. I guess I can call that a minor leak test. ha

Doing some documentation and have a question. There is a panel under the dash attached to the floor from side to side. What is this for? All I can figure is maybe to keep life jackets... from sliding out from under the bow. I haven't seen this in the restoration threads. I tried to upload a pic and even making it small it was to large.

You can see the panel in the 1st post you made, 2nd pix.

Yes, keeps whatever you stow behind it out from under foot, laying/sliding around on the deck or possibly kept dry: towels, gear bag, PDFs, etc

I can't tell from the small pix, but on other boats, it's sometimes a foot rest/stop in addition to keeping stuff behind it.

Try photobucket, pix show up nice and BIG and IN your post rather then attachments that have to be opened. Like this:

I've tried photobucket. Every time I use it I end up with a virus. I can't even look at photos from this site on photobucket. I've searched for a solution and run virus tools. Every time I visit photobucket I have a new virus. I just signed up for flicker but can't find a way to do the img. Is there another photo sharing site that provides this?

I've been using PB exclusively for 4yrs, no virus to date, but use whatever works for you.

I use the proprietary iBoats server for my photos and it seems to work fine. Type a couple of words in the write something box at the end of your thread. Click the left most icon on the upper right of the reply box at the bottom of the page. It has a page image with a paper clip. An upload attachments box will appear at the bottom left. Click that and you will get a screen that allows you to upload common image files by browsing your hard disk. Go through your files on your computer and select one and it will be presented in a small format at the bottom of your screen. You may have to make it smaller to post on the site by using Paint or whatever Mac's use for this if it is a super sized high res picture. If you keep it under 700 K or so it seems to work. Select large or medium from the options given you. If you don't like the size it displays at, select remove and it will go away so you can try again. Then change your selection and try again until you like the way your photo looks and its size and location. You will have to put the cursor in the message area where you want the picture to appear, but this is not so important at first, since we can all figure out what you wanted to do and later you will get better at it like I did. Then you just click post reply and it goes into the ether for us all to enjoy.

I have been pretty frustrated with off site photobucket type pictures here, because they tend to go away when the poster goes away or changes something with his or her photobucket albums and all you get is text and a cute little kitty for a picture.

It looks there is a virus that starts a task on pc's and is triggered when you hit the site. There is a procedure to get rid of it. I'll try that in the mean time I'll continue to use the procedure you provided Ron. Thanks.

Perfect, It works and I like it better than PB. I tried PB once before for an auto forum and they eventually went to allowing larger files. I don't want to upset anyone here, I've been reading all the rebuild/restify threads i can. I've been a aluminum boat lerker for years. I've always owned either wood or glass boats. I'm very excited about this one, I love the lines. I wanted a little straighter hull, but this was to good a deal to pass up. I'm even looking forward to working the dents out. Glutten for punishment I guess. Building this shop/carport was a long time coming. It will be fully enclosed next year.

image_234496.jpg While the ice is melting out of the holiday, I'm window shopping. For a Mercury ob, is this about all the gauges I would need? If not, what else? I'm planning a relatively simple dash in the area already used on this boat. I do however want a nice set of switches for lights, blower, bilge... Oh, this set is for Merc and has the entire wiring harness for half the cost of just gauges. I like the white face since they will set in the existing wood grain.

Thanks, I was thinking of putting some sort of cabinet face under there anyway. I can put an access door in that for life jackets... It can also be the housing for speakers. Gonna have to put some thought into that.

I was unpacking some tools for a project in the house tomorrow and found this. It was given to me quite a few years ago. Still new in box. I guess i have a use for it now. :) fish finder.jpg

I had the space heater on all day under the cover in the boat. Still can't pull the carpet. It's frozen to the flooring. Bummer. I may have to do that for another day to get it that warm. That's why I'm gathering materials for the rebuild. I can work on them in the heated shop.

Ok guys, a possible change in plans. I was searching Clist looking for a bow cap for my 18' holiday when i found a very indescript listing for a 22' starctaft. The guy promised me photos and i kept asking but nothing. Well anyway last night he called me back and sent me some blurry pics of a Chieftan. He got it from friends that did lots of work to it. Trailer has been completely done. I should mention I haven't seen this, but will today. He says it's a 4 cyl, but the outdrive says 185. not sure what's going on there. He says it's a new motor/outdrive pair. The 185 points me to a 4.3/alpha one combination. He says the paint is ok, but needs some attention as does the interior. He does say it's ready to go to the lake though. Anyway, we have a severe storm coming tomorrow so I'm off to see it today. More later today or tomorrow. The price is right hence me dropping everything to go see/get it.
