They had some with all carpet, some with all vinyl and some mixed. Lots of different tastes I guess. I wonder about the water coming over, but I have always gotten lift of the aft when coming to a stop so not sure about it. Sure makes better use of space. I was imagining much stronger rear of boat with this largely being made out of aluminum and attached to the last few ribs. Anything more than the old knee brace would be better. I may play around with some cardboard cutouts after I get that part of this project.

Gotta love boat shows. Another Idea I got from there is to do a vinyl floor and have a snap-in carpet made for it. Kinda the best of both worlds. Here's a better show of what I'm thinking for the aft. stern deck.jpg

Ok, I picked up the donor. Thought about walking away, but the price got better so I have it. Never seen rust like this on a galvanized trailer. Three year old wheels shot. To much salt water. Tires and wheel bearings are good as are the trailer brakes. I was surprised by the brakes. Anyway, work to do on this thing. I won't feel bad about scraping the Bayliner. It's shot. fender.jpg wheel.jpg

Yeah old rotten Bayliners are not something people seek out for restorations very often. Around here there's one on every block that's been sitting out all seasons uncovered for past several years. Rusty galvanized trailer, yikes.

Yep, more work than I expected. Rusty bolts going through bunk brackets... The main trailer frame is perfect so I went ahead and took it for the new lower price. If I'm lucky, I can sell components from the boat to make it free. That's the plan any way. Now I have my gauges, steering lots of nice brackets... Another belly fuel tank that I don't need. It looks like they recently replaced the stereo speakers. I guess they had their priorities. ha I'm sure this baby will be loaded with surprises. Oh, the ski pylon is nice so I'll reuse it.

Wow, Just looked up the ski pylon that's in the donor. Price is almost what I paid for the donor and trailer. Not that I would have bought one, but nice to know. The Granddaughter will be happy.

Well boat made the 500 mile trip home fine. Waved both ways Rob. The Columbia was like glass when I went across the bridge. :)

20160220_100411_resized.jpg Confirmation needed. For those of you that have done this before, how did you attach the braces? I was able to get the SS top bolt in and nylock in the top on each side. I'm assuming the rest of the bolts will have to go through both braces and the knee brace right?

Ok, I haven't through bolted yet, but dropped the transom back in. Sledge hammered is more like it. Tight fit. Installed the six 1/4 bolts through the knee brace and angle. This will be so much stronger than factory. 20160220_120634_resized.jpg

Ok, I got the through bolts in. They go all the way through the knee brace instead of just through and nuts inside the brace. Not what I wanted but plenty strong. 20160220_132814_resized.jpg

I'm thinking you did exactly what was needed for the knee brace repair to be as good as or better than new. :thumb:

Slowed down on the boat 4 a little while. My skid loader broke the main drive chain on one side. Brrrr that steel is cold even at 40 degrees. 10343518_1099505643422492_722590360011444552_n.jpg

Well, if I get the skid loader put back together, I plan to remove the windshield from the boat, strip the paint from the top before turning this tin can into a turtle. Just thinking the top should be stripped before turtling it. That way stripper can't run back on the fresh paint when I flip it back. Is that the way to go?

It's best to strip the entire boat and then wash it clean with a pressure washer to get every bit of the stripper removed from the crevices. You don't want some chemical stripper hidden and have it get wet and run out on fresh paint down the road some time.

Thx Rob, My dilema is the best way to do this without multiple flips of the hull. I guess I can at least get the top done anyway before the flip.

Ok, boat work and all the rest is on hold for a while. I had a heart attack this week and was amazed at how well everything went. however I have many restrictions and family members are making sure I don't do anything. Bummer. I will get back to it as soon as possible though.
