I have an 18hp Evinrude Fastwin that misses or cuts out as you try to give it gas to get it going wide open, the whole time you have it held wide open. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem? It idles fine and you can give it half throttle and it's fine.

I put a new fuel pump on it because it kept losing its prime. I forgot to say its a 1968. What is a fuel impulse? I am new at this. Just bought this motor and trying to get it running good.

I agree with JB, its probably time for a carb clean. There is one easy trick to try first. While running at half throttle, completely and quickly block off the carb throat with your hand. It will stall the engine and be hard to start. Do this a few times. Sometimes it'll clear a plugged jet or air bleed. Nothing to lose....
