I would like to know if its possible to ugrade the ignition system on my 1968 50 hp merc. Is it possible to replace the distributor type ignition system with a stator, powerpack, and coils? Thank you for any info...

Im going to suggest that it would be more work than practical unless you are really looking for a project to get you through that Alberta Winter. My 68 35 hp merc has stator powerpack and coils, it may be possible to retrofit and run wasted spark ignition. Unless your distributor is toast it is a very reliable system. I still run one on my bass boat, inline 6 with distributor ignition. It never misses a beat.
