motor has thermastat but does not seem to get hot enough. any ideas thanks jedi

Defective thermostat ( stuck open) ????

Not fitted in housing correctly ???

thanks vic pulled it out and cleaned it , looks okay but will put in a pan of hot water and see what happens. jedi

99% of the time, if it fails, it will fail in the open position. That is easy to tell at a glance.

On that motor, the thermostat only controls the temperature of part of the motor. The other part always gets full flow. Why do you feel it is not hot enough?

water coming out is only lukewarm

Remember what I said? Water is free flow through part of the powerhead. Cold lake water isn't going to increase much in temperature. It is the temperature of the powerhead that counts anyway--not the temperature of the discharge water. A worn out water pump will give you a nice hot discharge---hardly what you want.

The real test is how long you can put your hand on the head, before it gets to hot to touch:D

If you look at the back of your motor, at the cylinder head, you will see a vertical tube running down it. That is the bypass that F_R is talking about. Because of it, cooling water flows through part of the powerhead all of the time.

Check your t-stat and replace it if needed. Other than that, you should be OK.
