Picked this up last year. its had been sitting for about 6 years, so i rebuilt the carb, and water pump. it starts and runs fine (sometimes it takes a few pulls to get it going). My problem is that it seems like its excessively smoking.

its mixed at 35:1, I scoured the internet and it seems 50:1 is what I need, but more oil wont make less smoke, right? I have also heard that after sitting for quite some time, it takes a couple tanks of gas before it settles back in and smokes less. should I just be running this thing through some tanks?

its been sprayed with carb cleaner, and I ran some sea foam through it as well, so any other advice?

thanks!

That sea foam will make it smoke more too. Besides, it is supposed to smoke!! Are you running it on a boat in the water or in a bucket? The smoke will be way much worse in a barrel. Get it on a boat and run it hard to burn out all the crud you put in it and it will be fine.

When you put the seafoam in did you do it as a PM thing or did you give it the decarb blast ????

Suggest doing a proper decarb and then mixing at 50 to 1 after that.
Check out the "Top Secret" section for procedure.

Re: 1968 6hp evinrude

thanks for all the replies! I have only been testing it in 55 gallon barrel, the one time I got it on a lake last year, the pull cord busted and I had to leave....go figure.

the sea foam was mixed into the foam, it wasnt sprayed in. I want to burn this tank off and get a properly mixed ratio in there as soon as possible.

I am gonna be getting it out a bunch this week, is gonna be in the 70's all week and I dont have anything going on, so hopefully I get it all dialed in!
