Just replaced the impeller, but motor isnt pumping water. I was wondering what on a water pump can go bad because there is nothing much to them? Is it a flaw in the housing, or wear in the housing? I checked the tube, and its lined up. It just wont spit water.

Its an old motor that I dont know when it was ran last. I bought it used.

thanks

Make sure the key/pin is in place on the shaft/impeller. Otherwise the impeller won't spin. Also make sure the water tube is properly aligned with the water pump.

If you are using muffs, try putting the motor in a plastic container with the water level above the water pump.

i was using it in a trash can...I will try with the water level above the 4 bolts and hold the lower unit on. I havent had it that high yet. Is it a type deal where sometimes it takes it once to get going before it works regurarly? The impeller is a new one. Should I also hose water in the outake to fill the unit up?

on the back there is just 3 holes where the water comes out of, should I try to hose some water in there?

the key / pin is in, I double checked. When i turn the prop or shaft manually with the lower unit off I can feel the impeller spinning.

If the water level is high enough, the tube is seated properly, and the impeller is spinning, it oughta pump water. Was your old impeller in pieces when it came out? If so, you might need to flush it out as pieces could be blocking the passages. Other stuff could be blocking it as well. You can connect a water hose to the tube. If it doesn't flow through the whole circuit, that's a sign that something is stopped up. You may have to get creative, but flush it out forward and backward.

Normal water flow isn't always a blast of water coming out. A general way to tell if the engine is being cooled properly is to put your hand on the head. If you can stand it for 10 seconds or longer, then it's getting cooled. If you have to pull your hand away immediately, it's too hot. It may take a few seconds for the pump to get primed before you see any coming out.

Another thing about these white Chryslers. When they've been run hot, the head will have a pinkish hue to it. The discoloration is permanent. Mine's a little pink.
