Just purchased 1960 Glaspar Seafair Sedan from original owners son it has a 1968 elec shift 85hp shake down cruise it wouldn't start 4 new champs it started was a little snotty for a few min's then ran "Great", day two ran all day 1 full tank, no problems. Day 3 ran a little snotty coming out of the channel, trimmed her up and she was running great and suddenly died. vents are open and bulb is firm. Pulled the plugs, no spark.Towed her in. Tried 4 new Champs, still no spark. Any clues out there? I've read previous postings and will check tips.A local Evie Guru recomends starting at the Ign Switch and working back. :(

follow your wrenches advice Glenn, I had something similar happen to me and it turned out to be a wire worked loose on the ign. switch.

Rich

Re: 1968 Elec Shift 85HP was running great and Died

 So today I hopped on my 74 Honda CB 450, (back to the dock}. Armed with a multimeter a test lamp and some "basic tools" in a seat pack. I pulled the Ign. switch panel, tested for hot at all 4 terminals All lit up on positions OK. Using the split half theory I started at the back end next. On the inside I removed the first obvious cover I removed I discovered a power bank with color codes listed by terminal location. "Ok" sez I lets have a lookie. when checking color & location I found three wires taped up "?????" I said> Why? All of them led to the "Black Box" And all of them were rotten, no sheathing, no color codes nuthin but green copper. I think that this may be a big part of this problem. "DUH" It's a motorla box,12 volt N ground, modle # (?) GOM, serial #13482.Any body got one? This may not be "the problem" but I'm sure it's "A problem"

Thank Y'All

Dave Chapman
