I have just finished getting a Glastron V142 with at 68 Evinrude 40HP Lark going. It is a 40873D with a Generator. With the engine off and running lights turn on with no issue. Running the boat in the water if the lights are turned on the motor drops rpm and cuts out. Turn them off she runs great. Brand new Interstate Battery on restoration. Any ideas?

My guess is that you are grounding the running lights through the ignition kill wires.

DON'T do that. Running lights should not be connected to the motor wiring. Run separate fused wires from the battery to power the lights.
