Ok Guys, I am one of those complete do it yourselfers and well I have run into a laundry list of questions that i have come across! First, does anyone know what years, and what horsepower lower units are compatible with my 1968! Also i just recently changed my impeller, and before i did so both forward and reverse worked, now for some reason reverse does not work! I am assuming i messed something up with the shifting rod....any suggestions! Also, down at my home the motor starts and runs amazing! It will start up immediately and run at throttle or idle forever it seems! Now when i get up to the lake, its like i have to give it alot of choke or throttle to get it started, and it just doesnt seem to run near as well! I was told it could be the altitude change, which means carb adjustment! Any one have any idea or suggestions on how to take care of my few little issues! Thanks in advance!

When you reinstalled the lower unit the shifter spline was not rotated correctly so it will not shift right until you drop it, index it and bolt it back up.

Rotate that shift shaft until you 'feel' it 'click' into position, turn the prop to see if it locked into Reverse or Neutral, both have an indent.

Which ever one it is, move the throttle shifter into the same position then reinstall the lower unit. Done.

Your fueling problem is either a dirty carb restricting the idle fuel flow

OR

You have already cleaned your carb and adjusted the idle a little bit too lean. Idle mixture must be adjusted slightly richer than 'Best Idle Speed' while IN gear and IN the water to provide the additional fuel for crisp acceleration. Almost an additional 1/8 turn.
