I just found a 1968 fiberglass speed boat locally that has what used to be a running 3.0 Mercrusier 3.0 inline 4 cylinder. So yes a donor boat for the motor since my 1999 Mercrusier 3.0 motor is seized and will not even come close to turning over. All of my 99 motor accessories are solid and still have a like new shiny black powder coated appearance. Fully functional. Electronic igniton is fine. Now theres some major differences between the two motors. One the inspection cover on my 99 is stamped steel and the 1968 3.0 is aluminum and shouldn't matter that it is? The 1968 has a points distributor and my 99 has an elelctronic distributor. I'm assuming that i will be able to swap the newer equiptment over to the 1968 Long block? But not certain that everything will jive properly? Has anyone used a 30 year span on 3.0 mercrusier to install in a couple years old mercruiser powered boat?? Please help. Thanks to all in advance for taking time to read and or reply to my issue. Thanks

Start looking at things like; flywheel, starter, coupler, head, manifold, etc, etc and you will see it's going to be very difficult, if not impossible. Find a 1 piece rear main seal 3.0 and you won't have problems.

I am fairly mechanically inclined, automotive and industrial mechanical epxerience of 22 years plus. I used to work on the farm equiptment with grandpa when i was in 1st grade up. Hard work is my destiny? Its seems. You have to admit this is a much better swap than my idea of swapping a 1986 s-10 pickup 2.5L motor into this thing?? MY local boat mechanic wasn't 100% sure of the outcome on this swap. But mentioned that if the exhaust riser is the same and the bolt patterns are the same. One could swap the distributor from points to electronic ignition. And that the intakes looking similar should swap out? Would have to change the flywheels, starters, everything really? Thanks for your input. This dang shoestring budget is killing my ambitions to buy a brand new long block from Michigan motorz. Sux.

Ayuh,... That's a totally different motor, 'n won't work at all...

The crankshaft bolt pattern changed, in 90 I believe...
The flywheels are Different...
possibly the starters too...

The intake/ exhaust Will swap, no problem...
