Hello all, I recently purchased a 1968 Mercury 1000SS. Serial no. 2410533

It is in very good condition but it is missing the distributor and power pack. Where can I find one? Are the SS and non-SS distributors the same? Any help with info on the motor or parts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Better check compression as no one would remove parts from a good engine

I did, it’s got 105-107 on all 6 cylinders. It’s been in storage for 8 years but was put away correctly. I sprayed a bunch of two stroke oil down the cylinders and into the crankcase and turning the motor over felt very smooth.

Thats low even with oil in cylinders....I would pull transfer port covers and inspect cylinder/pistons before I dropped any more coins on it.

I will, but is it really low enough to be worried about? It is even on all 6 and it hasn’t run in 8 years, wouldn’t it go up a bit after a few heat cycles? Or is that something an old timer has told me that’s false? I’m honestly just wondering, I’m sure you know more than I do.
