1968 mercury inline 6 switch box

is there any way to check a switch box with a volt meter to determine if it is good? and if there is what would i check?

You must have 12 on the red all the time and 12 volt on the white when the key is on 4 post side. If so Disconnect the 3 wires on the 3 post side (dist. side) hook a jumper between the brn and white posts then connect a jumper to the blk post and with the key on,when you arc the blk post to grd you should have spark at the coil or at number 1 plug with the engine at TDC on #1.
