Re: 1968 MonArk rebuild
As for the Inside of the boat, I decided to strip the bench seats, but leave the old crusty paint on the sides and bottom. I want to add a wood floor this summer, so it will hide most of it. I bought a quart of truck bed liner from wal-mart and brushed it on the sides and bottom of the inside of the boat, then painted the bench seats and sides the same color green as the outside.
A buddy of mine gave me a couple folding seats that were in decent shape, but were really sun bleached. I washed and sanded them, then repainted them a tan color (could not find a matching green in a plastic paint, and this was their original color anyhow) I think they turned out nice. For the back seat I installed a king pin style pedestal seat. I figured this would be the best way to go since I needed the seat to be removable to drive the boat, but still wanted it in the center of the boat. I used a 7" pedestal and a swivel for the other seat.
I cut some 12" pieces of cedar and mounted 2 to the insides and outsides of the boat towars the front for trolling motor mounts. That way it can be swapped to either side easily.
And that is where I'm at as of now. Still want to floor it, replace the tires, and add a spare. I ordered some "Chris * Craft" decals to go on the sides of the boat (my name is Chris, I know it is kinda Corny), and I also Just got everything registered. I think I am going to try to take it out today which will be the first time I've put it in water. I am ready and excited to wet some hooks.
I know this is no Technical build by no means, but it goes to show what you can do with a little money and some elbow grease. As of now I have around $650 wrapped up in it.
