I have a trickle of water coming out from the power head, under the flywheel, spilling onto the pull-start. Can anyone tell me where that would be coming from? I recently picked up this ‘68 Sportwin cheap as I have a ‘65 Sportwin that only runs at full power with the cover off. I was hoping to get lucky and get one without the notorious exhaust leak. I figured it’s worth the interchangeable parts if nothing else, at $200. Unfortunately, it also has the same exhaust issue as well. After talking myself out of throwing them both in the scrap heap, I have decided to suck it up and repair the exhaust leak.
The ‘65 is a strong motor and runs great w/o the cover. Now I’m wondering how critical this water leak may be, and if I just need to tear them both down and use the power head that doesn’t have the water leak. I believe they are interchangeable.

Shift rod boot was leaking on mine. I think it’s nla. Might as well replace all rubber motor mounts while you have it apart.
