I just bought a 1968 14' starcraft. Not sure of the model it is the title doesnt even tell me. I paid 750.00$ for the boat, motor runs but does need new steering cables. I would like to restore this boat to it's original beauty, however I am not sure what an original look's like. I think the boat is missing some sort of side panel inside but not sure. Please if anybody could help me. I have tried to research pics online but it seem's as though people restore the boat's to their liking is this the best option.

Thank you for the link, that does help. Yes the brown seat's are out of place. The gentleman I bought the boat from had allready replaced the floor and seat's. I think white seats with a blue paint job will look much better. I am hoping to find the same time period seats and motor. However I have discovered that is easier said than done. Thank you for helping Jon

Wow beautifull boat. I was wondering about switching to single cable steering but was worried about the authenticity of the boat. Does something like that make a big difference in how the boat steers?

They steer similarly but I found my cable/pulley system to be a pain and it rattled. I wouldn't worry about the authenticity. You can still mount up a vintage wheel if you'd like.

Not to mention the safety of a newer steering system. I wouldnt want to be hailing arse and have a piece of rope snap and lose control, slamming into a 60 foot Hatteras, exploding upon impact, body parts strewn everywhere, women screaming..Oh the humanity..the Humanity of it all...

Oh wow that was a horrible visual. I mean watching the boats sink thats horrible. However on a good note I am ordering a new steering system. This boat will eventually have some children in it, and I would like it to ba safe as possible. Any ideas on a good paint and interior scheme to go with. I dont want the ordinary but something that stands out. And thank you all for the advice so far this is my first boat restore project and want to make other starcraft owners proud.
