is there a test i can do on this eng to test all or any components of the ignition?basically want to make sure all cyls are firing.thanks for any help...

yup you bet ,
I have the exact motor nad it had the exact problem. Mine had failed when i bought the engine. The failure occured do to reversing battery polarity. These power packs are very sensitive.
I have the original shop manual for this engine and it clearly explains testing procedures ( its very easy) . I dont have access to the manual at the moment. But if need be the oem replacement is 680CDN$ But i found a kimpex part# that is a direct replacement for 326CDN$. The CDI is produced by CDI Ignition. If you do a search online you will find it.

If the engine runs as you suggest, then the pulsepack is functioning. You can test the coil by unscrewing it from the distributor cap, then checking the spark. That should produce a strong blue lightning like flame/spark that will jump a good 3/8" gap.

At the spark plug leads, it should jump a 1/4" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame, a real SNAP!

thanks sledmaster,when i bought the engine4 years ago did the same thing!hook up battery conn wrong and friued the pak and rectifier,ive got the good manuel also so i will have too read up on it,2 years ago up on sebago lake my throttle cable broke put a new one in it so thats why i think the throttle stuff is off.will look into testing spark not sure if its spark,dirty carbs or throttle stuff outa whack!thanks for your input!how muck did you end up paying for the new pak?thanks again,
