If yours is like mine, there are two wires that go from the pulse pack up along the advance arm and under the flywheel to the sensor. On mine the flexing of the advance arm and age caused the wires to crack and ground to the advance arm right at the hold down clip. I was able to pull the flywheel and distributor and replace the wires.

You have several componets under the flywheel, points, dist cap, rotor, anti-reverse spring and some wiring. There are several more componets bolted to the block, amplifer, coil, safty circut and a lot of wiring. To acturately check out your system it might be best to get the OEM manual and use the troubleshooting section to find out what is wrong with your engine.

If indeed it's a 69 115 (no model number given) it does not have points, it has a magnetic sensor that replaces the points. If you already found chewed up wires, I would make sure all of them are sound before going further. The two wires I referred to are the two black (on mine) that go from the pulse pack up onto the advance arm.

Your motor is the same as mine, look at your shift switch, there should be a purple (12v) green and blue wire connected to it. This does the shifting. This motor is in forward with the motor off and goes into neutral as soon as it starts cranking.

I would still look for bad wiring first. The only other possible place for that purple wire that I can think of is for the choke, if the button is in the remote.

ok but that purple wire i was speaking of is coming from the shifter harness, and choke is already hooked up and works

Not sure then, is it possible the purple wire from the switch isn't connected to anything?

With the ignition system that is on that mtr I would HIGHLY recommend that you get an OEM manual and go from there. Forget about seloc or clymer.

outboardbooks is published by ken cook co. and, as I understand it, are reprints of the original omc workshop manuals as he bought the rights to them when omc went under...omc original workshop manuals are the ones you are looking for either from them or for sale on ebay
