1969 25hp and 79 25hp gearboxes interchangeable ?

Hi
Just want to know can i replace a 1979 Johnson 25hp gerbox with one from a 1969 25hp model while they look the same are there any differences that would stop them being interchangeable.

They will not interchange. Driveshaft spline configuration is different.
