1969 55hp evinrude water dripping

on my 69 55hp evinrude the engine runs cool never has run hot with me but there is a little stream of water coming from what looks like, Between the lower unit and the block assembly. Will this bother the performance of the engine or does it just look a little ugly. thanks in advance for your help.

Are you talking about the exhaust relief ports? These are the holes in the midsection just below the engine pan...back side of midsection. Water coming from there is ok.<br /><br />But....how cool is your engine running? Can you lay your fingers on the flat area on top of the engine with the engine idling for a long time? If so, that's to cold. A cold engine does not bode well for the efficent use of fuel.....how's that for the efficent use of words?.....

No it is the area where the lower unit bolts to the block assembly about half way down on the right side when looking from the rear> I have tightened the bolts but it did little or no good. The engine might be running to cool because you can lay you hand on the head after it has been idleing for a rather long time and it is barely warm.

Reelsport....are these holes vertical?<br /><br />You might want to check the t-stat. Sounds like the engine is running to cold. T-stat may be stuck open.

They are not holes but it is vertical if you dropped the lower unit from the block assembly it is the flat area where the lower unit meets the block assembly and bolts up. I dont know how good I am explaining this not very efficent use of words I am afraid. I will check the thermostat tomorrow while it is cold and see if it is open.

Maybe a better way of explaining it is where the mid section of the lowere unit bolts to the block

OK....let's go like this....<br /><br />You got the midsection hanging on the swivel bracket....The engine block bolts to the midsection on top. The lower unit bolts to the midsection at the bottom. Are these....what? slits maybe?...where the lower unit bolts to the midsection? Or up where the engine block bolts to the midsection?

OK....ontop of the midsection sets the powerhead adaptor. Between the adaptor and midsection is a gasket.<br /><br />The powerhead bolts to the adaptor and there is a gasket between them. My guess is one of the two gaskets leaking. Is the water coming out warm or cold?<br /><br />You could remove the two piece cowl right under the lower engine pan for a better looksee. Getting at either one would mean removing the powerhead.<br /><br />Did you look inside the engine pan for any leaks that would cause this dripping?

Now we are getting somewhere it is where the mid section bolts to the block a flat surface I know water should not be coming out there. What I would like to know if it is hurting anything or do I need to drop midsection and replace gasket if it has one.

No leaks inside the pan. The leak is between the adaptor for the head and the mid section of the lower unit. The water coming out is not warm at all and I replaced the thermostat this morning and ran at idle with the ears on for about 10 minutes, no change the heads are still not warm at all. Should I change to a hotter themostat??????????????
