Hi all!
I have a 1969 55hp evinrude. I have started to re wire it as the old harness was trashed. So I started with the ignition circuit. The amplifier box was shot so I decided to do an HEI module conversion. I use the points to trigger the HEI Module which then in turns breaks continuity to the negative side of the coil. This system works?sort of. I am getting VERY week spark. I am using the stock ignition coil and I want to know from you guys what?s normal for these coils to produce.
I have a video of what kind of spark I?m dealing with. Basically when I put the coil wire next to the block it will only jump about a 1/16 of an inch and no more. Now I know this outboard originally came with something called an amplifier, do you guys know if this made the coil more powerful? Or could I possibly just have a week coil?
Thanks for your time.
James
