1969 55hp ran fine sat for one month now will not fire

69 55 HP evinrude ran fine sat for on month now will not fire. Gets spark, fuel pouring out of carbs. With battery hooked up lower unit clicks when accelerator moved to forward. Prop always in gear and turns when attempting to start. what gives????

If you have gas pouring out of the carbs I would think either the floats sunk or the needle valves have trash in them.
If the engine is not running and you move the gear selector to forward or reverse, you are hearing the shift solenoids working.
The prop will turn until the engine starts and the hydraulic pump in the lower unit builds pressure, normally a second or two, and then it goes into neutral.

Thanks Daviet, will further investigate floats and needle valves. Initial inspection seemed okay.
