1969 70 hp Hood Insulation Foam Question

Guys, my 42 year old hood foam insulation is old, dry rotted and pretty much solid dust. Any reason why I can't scrape the old junk out and use that peel and press sound deadener that you see on floorboards/trunk floors on TV shows like Overhaulin' etc.? If the adhesive is of good quality and the substrate clean I would think the product would be as good, if not better, than the original foam. Any thoughts/opinions?

I used spray adhesive and added at least 1? foam years ago w/o a problem.
