Hello
This is my 1st post. Ive been reading old forums for a couple of weeks and would like to thank everybody THANK YOU
Now heres my story. I bought a boat. It is a 1976 26' Yukon Delta houseboat with a 1969 85hp Evinrude selectric shift outboard model #85993 S, serial #EO8841.

It looked to be in rough shape but still seaworthy. The previous owner started it in his yard with a flush hose on it and said that the reverse did not work but it would go forward. So I bought it and took it home.

After cleaning all the garbage out, I installed a new 6 gallon gas tank with 50:1 mix. I took it to the river and tried to start it. It cranked and cranked, starter engaged good, but would not start. One time it fired up, lunged forward and died. I tried somemore, finally gave up and took it home. Then I found this website.

I found that it was not wired right so I rewired from the ignition switch to engine to the shifter(10 wires). I cleaned the carburetor and fuel pump, and installed new hoses. Compression is 122 in all 4 cylinders. Now I don't get any spark
This is where I need your help. What should I check now? It appears that some of the ignition parts are newer. The box mounted on the back of the engine with 3 wires(blue, red, black/white) is labeled "Rapaired Motorola ign system 3 or 4 cyl omc no. 397123 date mfg sell
month 2 week 4 year 6. the ignition coil labeled rapaired and two yellow wires to under flywheel. Is this original or some upgrade?
