Hey guys......
my Johnson starts ok , runs perfect for about 30 minutes , then stalls out...and once it restarts its idles very poorly and when i try to give it some throttle it bogs down and stalls out... Any one have any ideas on what this could be ? and secondly , Does anyone know if there are 1 or 2 thermostats on this engine? and where they or it is located?

Thanks Alot !!

xxwulvexx,

Most likely, your engine is suffering from the need of carburetor overhauls and a sync. and link. Neither job is too difficult with a manual. Look here for that.

http://www.outboardrepairs.com/manuals/

Your engine has two thermostats. Look for the rubber hoses going from the heads to the thermostat manifold on the bottom rear of the block.

Just one thermostat and venostat on the early V4s, like this 1969. If the thermo is there and acting properly, the cylinders should be warm/hot - you should be able to rest your fingers on them for a few seconds.

Does this happen repeatedly, so that if it cools it'll run fine again for the first 30 minutes, then crap out? Is the battery charging?
