Hi, I have a 1969 Evinrude with an OMC I/O 120HP Model #CUFR69B. I need ball gear kit for it but can't seem to find one anyhere online... I was told these were press on type ball gears. Does anyone know if this is correct and if so where I might find a kit? Iboats doesn't list one....Thanks

OMC sez you can run the ball gears with only 30% left.

Make sure the water jet on the ball gears is working.

OK thanks... I keep hearing differing opinions on the ball gear wear.... And I didn't know there was a water jet on them so thanks for that info too.... I still have a lot to learn about boats thats for sure....

Another thing that you want to make sure you have is the little stainless steel deflector shield that mounts above the ball gear on the intermediate housing. It keeps the ball gears flooded with ambient outside water.

At one point it became a standard item, not sure what year though. But it can be added. (just bolts on using the top two bolts on the IH driveshaft flange)

Ok... thanks again... I looked at mine and did not see a water hole but I have not got the whole thing apart yet either.... I am trying to find some pics of a later model to see what stuff they added in the newer models.....

Re: 1969 Ball Gears...

not sure the spray jet for ball gears was there on a 69.

If you don't want to fix your unit, you could look for a newer intermediate from a 1980's boat with the splined ball gear for the intermediate side. Could probably find the whole intermediate for less $. (check your pm's)

But the prices for those parts has actually dropped by about 50% since last year. BRP must have found some more inventory or something.
