Hi,
I recently bought a 1963 Glasspar marathon, appx 15 ft, with an Evinrude triumph 60, as my first boat. Knowing little to nothing about boating I took it in to a local shop to have it inspected. They pronounced it in great shape for its age and said the engine had good compression, spark, water flow and shifting. They replaced the plugs and I cleaned it up, replaced the battery and cables, the lower drive oil with premium blend, lubed the pivot, filled the 6 gallon tank with 89 and evinrude oil at 50-1,and took it out with a friend who had some boating experience. We cruised around the very calm river for 45 min to an hour at varying speeds and aside from pulling hard to the left at speed it seemed to run well. My question, sure to be the first of many, should I have used appx 4 gallons of fuel to cover less than 10 miles?
Thanks,
Bill

Boats aren't measured in mpg, it's gal/hr. 4 gal seems about right. An estimate for all outboards is 10% of the hp is how many gal/hr at wot. So yours would be 6 gal/hr.

Are you kidding? Seriously, that Triumph was just that--a major triumph for it's day. It would almost perform right up there with the 75hp but with about the same gas consumption (or less) than a 33. You should see how fast an old V-4 75 can suck in the sides of a 6 gallon tank.
