1969 evinrude 80hp

howdy, <br />i just took my boat out for the first time. it idles and reeves up fine in nuetrel. but when i put it in drive it wont go more than 10mph. any ideas?<br /><br />thanks guys

Start right at the beginning, spark, fuel, compression. Also check all fuel fittings, and linkages.

new fuel lines, plugs ext.

Do the rpm die off, or just the lack of speed?<br /><br />Spun prop?<br />Is that selectric shift? ie. Worn out lower end?

Yeah....need a little more info cblguy. Most any engine will rev like crazy in the driveway. 67' 80hp...packin' some years behind it...carbs been overhauled lately? Need to do the prelims like RJ suggested. Spark, compression and so on. Let us know what's up.
