New to outboards guys. I noticed when I went to clean my carb out that there was something just out in the open next to the carb. I was wondering what it is exactly?

I am referring to the yellowish plastic piece with the knob on the end thats covered in grease. Does that slide under the plate beneath the flywheel? Is there a groove that it slides into? Also is there any way to get that back in place without taking off the flywheel? Im not sure but it seems like it has something to do with my throttle.

Almost looks like the cam follower, but it should be riding against the plate attached to the mag plate.
Try looking at the parts breakdown and see if you can locate it.

It doesn't make sense because you have the top off the carburetor. If you had it all together (correctly) you would see how it all acts together to operate the throttle.

I had the top half of the carb off because I was cleaning it out at the time I stumbled across it...

I cant seem to find my camera. Does anybody seem to know exactly what this part is I am talking about and how to get it back to where it is supposed to be? Anything to help me better understand it...

shop2.evinrude.com...study the diagrams for the carb and magneto components is the only suggestion I can offer

I agree that is the cam follower.

I do not believe it slides under what you describe as "the plate beneath the flywheel" That (part no 309872) is the throttle operating cam. The cam follower should rest against it and operate the throttle on the carb .

I cannot see from the parts diagram how the cam follower is linked to the carb but if you put it back together as it was originally it should be obvious. ( Via parts 65 and 66 in the diagram below perhaps ???)

Good clear diagram on THIS WEBPAGE

Thanks Vic. Thats a good diagram. I also cannot tell by looking at the diagram how the cam follower connects but it does seem obvious that it is the cam follower. I guess I will have to take a look at it and see if I can remember where it went...

Cant seem to figure out exactly where it should go. Starting to get annoying...
i just wanna get out and do some fishing! At least I know what the part is now. Just gotta toy around with it until it makes sense I guess. I might play around with it again tomorrow. FRUSTRATING!

Yes Vic you were right. It does sit between the throttle operating cam and parts 65 and 66. It got it all back together correctly and after looking at it put together correctly it all makes sense. Thanks a lot guys you helped me out tremendously. I just ordered a fuel pump pick up screen and I am gonna replace that once it gets here. I ordered it off that link you sent.
