Okay so I dont know much on this one either except the post. I did speak with the guy and he says boat has not been run in three years never seen salt watef and originally from montana. He bought it in Arizona intentions of bringing it up to speed but with his divorce and living on his other boat no time.

I posted forum earlier about the 1979/1980 Suncruiser so in comparison what do you guys think. I will be looking at this tomorrow morning and I know I can lower the guy. Figured the twin Mercury V6 are worth a good deal. It appears that everything else is good and cabin he said was good as well.

Let me know your thoughts from the experts who know better. Either free boat of 1979/1980 Suncruiser with a OMC or this baby with twin V6 Mercury.?????

Both I would plan to fix right up . I hope you pros tell me second one is a better choice.

If your handy do the mercs. Forget the OMC Check the boat for rot and the engines to see if they have been taken care of. Weather, Locked up. rust etc. You need to take a mechanic with you that knows boats.

Re: 1968

Free and/or "TLC needed boats normally mean that they need a new transom/stringers etc etc etc.

Rehabbing a rotted fiberglass boat is a huge undertaking and is also costly.

Twin motors means twice the fuel consumption.

Do a TON of reading here before you pull the trigger on a boat. It'll save you a ton of time, money and heartache.

Re: 1968

Hey guys it turned out to be a 1968 Inca Imp!! Everything looked very solid, the entire deck was actually all fiberglass that I could tell. Solid white color and no wood. As for any soft spots there were none. Has twin Mercury Inline 6 cyl motors that all checked out good. No batteries so I was unable to hear them run but judging by what I know of motors and how they look mistreated it all checked out. Outdrives turned and also steering worked well. The only downfall was the trailer it sits on will need some welding work and a couple new tires. Despite its age I believe this thing was well taken care of. Has 4 gas tanks alongside the bulkhead of the port side and starboard side. Each being about 18 gallons a piece but guess you need 72 gallons of fuel to run twin motors. I did some homework on this model and turns out they were made for the USCG for patrol boats in the Great Lakes region. Sweet and some history involved. I didn't purchase it yet, guy wants $1000 but I would like to get him to at very least $900. What do you guys think? Oh I will have to try to get pictures up, looks like his original ad got flagged not sure why. I'll have to call him and ask. Any of you guys heard about this boat and would you think it would be worth $900?, guess hard to judge since you can't see it. Again, I will see what I can find out.

Here are some more this is the 1968 Inca Imp! Tell me what you guys think please.

One question I have right now is the picture showing the throttle lever. There are two of those of course hence two motors. One was removed, and if you look at the one still installed the bracket going almost horizontal which has the C clamps on both sides, (Picture zoomed in on the throttle) snapped right at the connection of the cable. Something of this I wouldn't expect to find a replacement of the original so how hard would it be to just replace the throttle mechanics with a complete new setup? If so what would you guys recommend?

1969 Inca Imp

Okay first thing Moderators can you please remove the other forum. I would like this one to be the fresh new one and I will start my story here. Thanks in advance.

Okay so Monday I will be coming home with this boat and it is like above 1969 Inca Imp. I will talk more of it but right now I just want to here what the pro's have to say and others think. Here are multiple pictures that I have. Thanks.2012-06-11_12.53.47.jpg2012-06-11_12.55.45.jpg2012-06-11_12.57.48.jpg2012-06-11_15.25.42.jpg2012-06-11_15.25.52.jpg

Just like I stated on the one picture you will notice the up close of the shifter/throttle. This is a dual setup. Turns out that bracket with the "C" clip on it from both ends snapped right near the end on the other throttle handle. Does anyone know how hard it would be to replace the entire throttle/shifter with another new system?

As far as that goes I will have a few things to fix on trailer once I get it, some welding in the front on the bracket holding the bow bumper against boat. And one small area on middle of trailer. Four new tires, check wiring and should be good. Let me know what you guys think!

Nice to see another IMP on here. you have half the battle won since you do not have the OMC on there and you have the duals to boot. this is one of my favorites. how is the transom and sole? You should be able to replace the controls pretty easy. thanks for stopping by my thead. i will be watching your as well.

Thanks for your drop by. Been waiting on peoe to chime in on my discovery. Figured either people didn't like this model boat or laughed at its year.

Well to be honest not sure what would be the best way to check transom? The deck/sole? Seems very solid with no rot. Not sure also the best way to check under the one piece fiberglass deck inlay for rot? You can jump on it and all solid. The middle section has a fish livewell so maybe if I take that out I could see more. Defiantly some cosmetics to work on. The major problem I have right now is I need to move trailer but it has some 8-14.5 mobile home tires on it which are tough to find. Two are low on air and one looks bald as well as if air put in it, it might blow. So either I need a subsitute for the six lug rims to something easier to find tires or buy new :( I was told chevy six lugs just like the chevy tahoe or suburban will work.

Well excited for the day to bring it home and get into it soon. Will post more info soon.

Oh you say controls easy to fix, so shod I just install a new double contolled shifter and customize it into my dash?

Re: 1969 Inca Imp

celtic,
i would find either a new set or used in good shape and sse how far off the measurements are from yours, then just trim around to fit if necessry. i bet you can find one that is a fit without modifications.

does not seem to be a lot of people that know about IMPs from what i could find.

the best way to check out the transom is using a hammer to tap around it, especially where the cutout are, the stringers join it, any thing that passes through or attaches to it and the drain hole. you are listening and feeling for anything other than a thud like a hollow sounding one opposed to a dead thud you will hear when you tap a good spot. ou can also use exploratory holes, by drilling into the areas using a drill bit and checking for the wood color that comes out. dry light colored good, wet dark bad.

check the stringers where ever you can get to them and where they hit the transom and engine box. make sure they are not soft or crumbling. These boats seem to have a problem when manufactured that the bulkheads and stringers were not isolated but put in place and then glassed over making those areas and the engine box the weak/bad areas.

you could cut out a hole in the liner to check under it and see if there are other issues below that you need to fix as well.

checking where you can is good starting point.

Not to worry others will chime in and help you out.

Oops! My fault for confusing everyone I will make sure to maintain same question posts within the same thread. I wasnt getting feedback so I kind of jumped the gun sorry.

Willy: thanks for this info, it will provide of good use when I get boat home. Right now im having problems towing because the trailer it sits on is using 8-14.5LT tires which are super hard to locate any used. Mainly used for mobile home trailers. Ones i did find online are like $86. So im in process of trying to place on chevy six lug tahoe rims to at least get trailer and boat home. Then i will walk the line of new axles, etc..

As soon as I have a update I will post. In meantime I have hit a rockwall on this one.

Good luck with this IMP Celtichawk. They are solid heavy boats and generally very well-built with a fairly loyal following. I have a 1984 IMP X190 with a single Merc 305 CI V-8. Those twins should make her get up and go.

Re: 1969 Inca Imp

Hey thanks everyone for your support on this boat and my forum posts. Turns out I passed on this boat due to some major work needed on trailer and I didn't have the time allotted to remove boat from owners property intime. It's a shame but I got my hands on a 16 foot wellcraft instead with a Volvo Penta AQ125A. Will notice my postings about this one elsewhere.

Thanks again that boat had a piece of history and sucks I didn't have time to get trailer fixed or really a solid place to store it while I got it going.
