Hello all, my first post.

I bought a 1969 Johnson 25 hp motor recently. Guy told me it needed a fuel pump. He was able to get the engine to run by gravity feed gas to engine. I have the older fuel pump and it is in pieces. Want to get the beast running because valuable pre-spawn fishing is awaiting.

My question...

Can I salvage the existing fuel pump? I have looked for rebuild kits everywhere with no luck. Only new ones which are about $90 a pop. Most of the other year models similar are about $40 and have kits for about $15-$20. Do I just need to go out and buy a new one that matches the exact year or does another year fuel pump work just the same.

Anything will help and am happy to be a part of this community.

Any OMC fuel pump with correct GPM rating, or equivalent Sierra pump will be fine. Buy one, and bolt it on and go fishing!

Repair kits are available for the fuel pump.-----Cowling appears to be a 1968 model.

I ended up buying a new one because the other was in so many pieces and given that I only spent $200 for the engine, was willing to invest a bit more (hopefully that is it other than common maint items). Going to be spending the next week going through the beast and follow a few maint articles I found on here as well as purchasing an original service manual for the engine. As always, excellent forum and excellent help.

Thanks again guys.
