1969 Johnson 55HP, Choke solenoid partially engaged with key?

I haven't been able to find a clear answer to this. Motor starts and runs, and electric choke works great, but whenever the key is in RUN, the solenoid is partially energized. It'll click back just a bit, and if left in RUN for a while, the solenoid gets very warm / hot. The actual choke switch *does* fully engage the solenoid.

I see that it's fed from both the choke switch (expected) and from the amplifier, and I'm not sure what function the line to the amplifier has. I just want to make sure this is as-expected and that I don't have voltage coming in somewhere it shouldn't be.

Can anyone share anything?

That is the way it is supposed to be. It is a two-stage choke, first stage is a warm-up choke which is partially closed till the motor warms up, then opens. Second stage slams the choke all the way shut for cold start-up. Wire "to amplifier" actually is purple wire from key switch, feeding both amplifier and choke thermal switch.

^^^^ ---Agree with information posted above.----Choke should kick off once motor warms a bit.---Perhaps check and see if thermostat is installed.

Perfect. Thank you for the info -- this makes sense. I had missed that it just *passed by* the amplifier on the way to the I terminal.
