Hi everyone. I've been reading this forum for a year, and yall have helped a lot! I've gotten enough info to completely rebuild my '75 Evinrude 9.9 without actually posting a question! Thanks to all!
I'm really enjoying "tinkering" with these old motors, so i went looking around for some others. I found a 1969 Johnson 9.5 hp in a local pawn shop for $100.00 I know it'll ned some work, like the stop button & the linkage for the fuel mix knob. It's not "locked up", but I can't check compression in the store. How available are parts, & should I take a chance on it? I like "tinkering" with 'em, but I don't enjoy losing money! If i fix it how much might it bring?

I think most parts are available, might have a hard time finding major repair parts, but tuneup, carb and water pumps should be no problem.
I wish I could find one for that price.
You might want to take a good look at the engine, some say they are harder to work on because of the way they are built, being low profile and all.
I started out working on them and it doesn't bother me but it might you.

Thanks Daviet. Sounds like it might be a worthwhile project. Maybe my son will be ready for it by the time it's done.
